New To The Area

You've just arrived in Irving, Texas and it's time to take stock. New house complete with mortgage and online post card printing home business setup? Check. New registration plates for your out of state vehicles? Nope. Knowing who your neighbors are? Uncheck. Having the right number to call if you spot a stray pet in your neighborhood? Uh oh. You've never thought of any of that! Luckily, we have and we've taken the liberty of compiling it for you here in this article.

Voting

Living in a new city doesn't automatically qualify you to vote in your new district. To register yourself to vote in the municipal elections, contact Voter Registration at (972) 721-2493. This is something you only need to do once. You'll probably get a card in the mail along with the department store flyers and ads for places that buy scrap gold rings which invites you to register for state and federal elections and to register yourself in the census. If you don't, contact elections Texas at 1-800-252-8683 or download a mail-in registration form at usa.gov. Obviously, you are only eligible if you're already an American citizen.

Getting Involved

A great way to get to know your new neighbors and your new city is to get out and volunteer. The Keep Irving Beautiful movement is involved at all levels of the community and is a great place to start. You can also learn about other volunteer opportunities with the city by calling (972) 721-2501 or joining the congregation of the church of your choice. You never know, maybe an advocacy group is out there just waiting for a former Hamilton, Ontario lawyer like you.
