Living in a new city doesn't automatically qualify you to vote in your new district. To register yourself to vote in the municipal elections, contact Voter Registration at (972) 721-2493. This is something you only need to do once. You'll probably get a card in the mail along with the department store flyers and ads for places that buy scrap gold rings which invites you to register for state and federal elections and to register yourself in the census. If you don't, contact elections Texas at 1-800-252-8683 or download a mail-in registration form at usa.gov. Obviously, you are only eligible if you're already an American citizen.
A great way to get to know your new neighbors and your new city is to get out and volunteer. The Keep Irving Beautiful movement is involved at all levels of the community and is a great place to start.
